Nike Trainer Dunk Free x Mita - Nike Hybrid
What is going on at Nike these days? Look at those kicks. I am sorry but this is too much. Way too much. Too much details? Overloaded? Clustered? Ridiculous? Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes...
Mash the movie, riding fixed gear in San Fransisco
MASH: "It's not about stopping - it's about going as fast as you can. Commitment to every line, corner, and hill is what defines the style of these San Francisco riders. Come roll with us." Gabe Morford and Mike Martin, Directors
This is the trailer. The movie should be premiered in the Bicycle Film Festival, which is touring worldwide. Dedicated to my bro'Skoya
Now there is a lot of positive things I wanted to say about this wirebreakers operation: the way they use the "not so new" krump trend (I mean how can any thing be new after David Lachappelle tries to make a documentary out of it...Oh wait, actually he did.) and associate it to their main product benefit: wireless headphones (wire breakers...doh). So you can just "Krump it up, Kid, Gansta Style"... Sorry.
Anyway, the website destroyed anything cool I had to say. I am not for the "amateurish look and feel" when professionally done. Plus, its content is not socially enabled. Can't share the videos, cannot download them... You are going to tell me: "But they are on YouTube". So what. It's about how the brand engages its target on its own turf, YouTube is one touchpoint. Not THE touchpoint.
Anyway, if you want to look at the website… here it is.
Another good good, courtesy of Nike. This content website features a short documentary in two parts about the uptowns. Think JUST FOR KICKS. Same director, Thibault de Longeville.
Relax, lay back. Best lunch break anyone could wish for.
Summer is coming. So for those client meetings where you need to drop some hotness but it's too hot for those über limited ostrich/patent kicks... Just go for these fresh espadrilles. If you can't have the budget or work signed off, at least you can have a relaxing chat about them.
The artists? Alife, Andy Jenkins, Ben Drury, Cody Hudson, Delta, Eric Elms, Gaukler, Jeff Staple, Maharishi, Marok, Michael Leon, Michael Place, Mike Giant, Mode 2, Mr Cartoon, Mr Jago, Parra, Pushead, Rinzen, Rostarr, Sheone, Upso&Prate, Will Bankhead, just to name a few... Should be ace.
BUILD designed this skateboards for australian hipster magazine REFILL. Laser cut. Cool use of the technology. Not sure if anyone would ever ride this one, though.
This one almost slipped through my radar. Pussy and papers poetry power and pistols. For Kevin Lyons show at BEAMS Tokyo, They produced this really Hip book with more than 500 hundreds Hop of Kevin's t-shirts design. Hard to find… Sold out everywhere?
Little teaser for the already released "Pedal", a documentary about surviving the streets of NYC as a "rogue knight" on a bike... texts by Zephyr, Ken Miller, Swoon.
“Million Dollar Vandal is the uncensored story about the life and times of Brooklyn's prodigal son, Desa MTA(...) this book chronicles in detail how Desa became the symbol of New York's war on graffiti during the 1990's, and details the repercussions that came with being the NYC Vandal Squads public enemy number one."
"The World Tour documentary has already premiered in Los Angeles and New York. The film will be showing in London on November 17th and in Japan in December. The World Tour DVD will be available in December for free with purchase of the World Tour Black Book. Here are a few screen shots from the movie." more info here
And sometimes it's nice. In a recent trip to London, my hotel room was right in front of a graff I did four years ago, with my partner in crime Fly, on Brick Lane. Old memories...
"On Saturday 14th October we will be releasing the first part of a series of four colour ways of the Stussy & Nike Dunk Hi. These are very limited and available in-store only." Stüssy Store, 19 Earlham Street, London, WC2 9LL
Interesting facts: Nigo's favorite movie is BIG - He doesn't DJ at birthdays or weddings - They are many earthquakes in Japan - His "crib" is like his shop so warm and full of joy - He is a fashionable Otaku
The editing of the video is effective. A strong concept and a national execution make this operation a must! Now, Banksy’s fans are paying huge bucks to have this punked CD, auctions going up to £370 on ebay. The CD has now been taken off the shelves.
What’s funny about this operation is that everybodyloves it.
HMV UK said: "I think it's brilliant, it's kind of iconoclastic. He's knows how to make a very powerful statement and say more about something than most of us can generally articulate, about celebrities trying to make music and celebrity superficiality. The irony is they'll probably manage to sell more copies of the album." It's obvious that Paris's album benefits from all this FREE press. Anyway, is there bad press, when it comes to Paris? Not sure. Her marketing plan has always been supported by jealousy, bad press and... genuine talent of course.
The best statement came from Virgin: "We think it's very funny. It's a credit to him, very creative. He captures the Virgin spirit." Banksy captured the spirit of Virgin… When is the next Virgin ad featuring Banksy's art?
I have just received my Dunk SBTG. They are Asia exclusive, but I managed to score a pair, without passing by ebay… Thanks to Christine @ nike spore for the kicking those across the Atlantic directly on my feet! Pics? The fabrics used are nice, the details are state of art. Overall, it’s a very tight trainer. Anyway, she also sent me a small report of the party. Here are some pics:
Kicks, girls, beer, cats… who said spore couldn’t rock it! and here's the official launch video!
The shoes were launched @ two famous shops: Gallery in far east plaza (250 ppl queueing) and LE2 Skateshop (450 ppl)...
Finally Undefeated site is online. It has a cool review of their billboard project. You don’t know it? Here’s the deal: The Undefeated Billboard Project is a unique collaboration between Undefeated, Aaron Rose (the guy from Alleged Gallery) and Nike. Perched above the Undefeated location on La Brea in Los Angeles, California the Undefeated Billboard Project is a reflection of our store and the culture it represents. It takes the work of both fine artist and street artist and places it in an area where it normally wouldn't be displayed. This collaborative effort lends for a stunning addition to the visual landscape of Los Angeles. Voilà! Enjoy…
Bike messengers have always been hip. With a lot mysticism around them. In France we don’t have real bike messengers… The closer we have is this: This short movie shows a bike messengers race through the streets of NYC. It’s crazy. Those guys are ill. Looking at them gave me almost the same feeling as when I saw my first skate video, with this skater pulling a one foot ollie. Back in the beginning of the 90s... Enjoy! Ps: Yes the 7mn are worth!
If you’re interested there’s book+documentary by Sutherland… Buy it here
Tag has always been considered as the evil branch of Graffiti. “Yeah, you understand, there’s less colour, less character, just less feeling, it’s less creative…” Whatever. I love tag. It’s rough. It’s about getting up, quick and clean. It’s a small “schnapps” disturbing your digestion of the urban environment. Anyway, a book just came out. Just about tag. 300 taggers.
How Nike turned young (white?) skate kids into brand’s ambassadors?
This is a very good article by adbusters. Read it. You’ll learn something. Maybe. If I do agree with some points, overall I ‘m not convinced. This article points out that limited editions are bad, that Nike is abusing “poor” and “young” sneakerhead/skaters… But I don’t see any difference between the “kicksaddict”and any collectors. A car collector, if into Aston martin, will kill for a DB5. But no one is calling him names… He is just passionate. The only difference is the media hype around this industry right now. But everything runs in cycle. This trend like others will die. Well actually, it’s already dying. Not business wise, the alternative sneaker industry is going great (by alternative, I mean non athletics). But look at how many people are in this game now. How many models are coming out now? From how many brands? It’s crazy. I don’t consider myself a collector. I just like rocking fresh kicks. And Nike is the best at doing them!
A project by the mad guys of UBIQ and Stefan Dukaczewski of Mstrpln.com
"A Step in the Right Direction, ASRD is a sneaker based technology project done in collaboration with UBIQ boutique in Philadelphia". It's has a receptor in the shoe that indicates you if the zone you're entering is wifi friendly...
