Best onlinertainment since..._____
This is one of the most exciting project i have seen on the web since a long long time. Actually, it could have been a TV Show, and would have hooked a massive ‘independent movie fan’ base. The pitch is simple, well actually it’s not, but hey, I’ll try. A writer is blocked on her last book which is about two guys, living in a boat and that never had any contact with the outside world. They only drink milk (delivered by truck) with cereals (fished around the boat).
What’s great is that they are two sides to the story:
One is the writer’s story and her relationship with her mentor, her book, its characters, and how they slowly influence her, the fiction becoming more and more real. >>Lincoln tells us this story on lovelybysurprise.com
The second side is on a Mercury site : theneverything.com. It focuses on the life of the two brothers on their boat. Written and directed by Kirt Gunn (meet the lucky ones), the movies are completely out of the box compared to the web movies we are all used to watch.
Y&R and Wunderman Detroit gave complete creative freedom to Gunn and her team after a precise briefing on each car. “Each story is designed for a distinct audience that shares an important element with the other: a mindset that looks to the Web as a place to work, shop, and play,” said Scott Kelly, Lincoln Mercury Digital Marketing Manager.
They are closer to what a Gondry, a Jonze or a Coppola (the daughter, not the old man) could have produced. The characters are neurotic, ironic, touching. The editing is great, the music tight... Hey, I have watched everything on both site and I’m completely HYPED UP. I can’t wait to see the next chapters!
What more can I say?
Nothing more than Gunn haven’t: “Because we were given complete creative latitude, we were allowed to realize the full potential of the story. This is the very essence of independent film. It celebrates the vision of the artists, whereas more commercial movies need to respond to the producers’ interpretation of the mass market. The fact that these brands were brave enough to stand behind this project is a strong testament to their desire to reach new audiences in an unconventional and inspiring way.”
Go watch them: lovely by surprise.com and theneverything.com
Ps: makes me wondering about buying a Lincoln
Ps 2: mercuryvehicles.com traffic increased by 400 percent since the beginning of the campaign
